Frank was found parked up in a council garage he had been there since 1986. He was owned by an eighty something young gentleman who parked it up when the clutch cylinder failed. The council in their wisdom decided they wanted to build on the land where the garage stood so we were offered the Chamois as the garage had to be emptied. We went to look at it in June 2010 and straight away paid the asking price. We blew the tyres up, dragged him out of the garage and put him on a trailer. When we got him home he seemed in pretty good shape to say he had been stored for such a long time. I poured oil down the sparkplug holes and left it for a week then I turn him over with the starting handle with no problem. I cleaned the carb & distributor, added new plugs, points, battery, water pump, radiator hoses and replaced the clutch cylinder I changed the oil and the second turn of the key he sprang into life for the first time in 25 Years. I drove Frank up and down the drive a few times, the brakes didn’t work very well but he ran like a good’en. I spent the next few months freeing and replacing all the brakes. did lots & lots of welding. When I started the holes just kept getting bigger and bigger. See Photos, Finished the welding Then I had to touched up the paint work. In April I took him for the MOT and FAILED he had a dripping brake pipe union so I replaced it took him back and came away with a certificate! we taxed him and he was on the road. Next winter we intend to give him a full respray and new carpets and he will be like new. |
